The colour balance adjustment layer is an extremley important tool for photo restoration. You'll use this tool for photo restoration to repair colour casts. This is certainly the most common reason why you will use it. The colour balance adjustment layer works by creating an adjustment layer that you can either clip to the layer directly below or have it set so it's effects all the layers below it.
The tool has three bars that you can use to either add a certain colour the photo or remove a certain colour from the photograph. There are three sliding bars you can use to achieve this. These are shown below:
Cyan to Red
Magenta to Green
Yellow to blue
Whne you use colour you have it effect three different aspects of the photogrpah. The first is the Shadows. This means only the darker pixels of the photo restoration will be effect. The second is the midtones. This means only the pixels of medium luminosity will be effected. The third is the highlights. This mean that only the lighter pixels of the photogrpah will be effect. As mentioned earlier when it comes to photo restoration your main use for this tool will be the correct a colur cast. we all those pictures from the 1980s that have that horrible orange colour cast. You can use this tool to remove it with a few simple clicks. Just by using the yellow to blue slider and adding a bit more blue and by using the cyan to red slider adding a bit more cyan.
